Applications for promotion to Readership or Personal Chair should normally be made through the Head of School and Dean of College.

Applications for promotion to Readership or Personal Chair may be submitted at any time; there are no closing dates for applications. The deadline for receipt of applications for consideration at the next meeting of the Committee may be obtained from Miss Bethan Nelson, Secretary to the Professors and Readers Committee.
Applications are considered initially by the Professors and Readers Committee, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor. If the Committee is content that a prima facie case has been established, independent assessments of the application are sought from at least three external persons who are normally professors in the same subject/field or in a cognate subject/field.
The Professors and Readers Committee will normally aim to deal with an application within four to six months, but the timetable is dependent to some extent on the external assessors, and at times the process can take longer. The Committee meets regularly and will deal with an application as quickly as possible.
