Design collaboration transforms vascular scanning process
A fruitful collaboration between technicians and academics at Pontio Innovation saw the development of a bespoke clamp stand. It is now being used in the cardiovascular physiology laboratory at Bangor University’s School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences.
The specific design of the clamp stand enables researchers to stabilise the ultrasound transducer when performing vascular scanning. It is helping to greatly improve the accuracy of data generated.
3D printing keeps SEACAMS at the forefront of marine research and design
SEACAMS, a branch of Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences, has been successfully manufacturing marine equipment for many years. Their recent collaboration with Pontio Innovation enabled them to prototype their products using 3D printing for the first time.
Their challenge was to design a frame to hold acoustic data collection instruments at an appropriate clearance from the sea bed. The SEACAMS team initially used powerful 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to model the frame, and then turned to Pontio Innovation to produce a scaled prototype using 3D printing. It allowed the SEACAMS team to consider and then review their design before manufacturing.
Ongoing collaboration with Pontio Innovation will help to ensure that SEACAMS and Bangor University remain at the forefront of marine research and design.
Business boost to Bangor-based medical start-up
North Wales based UW Designs develops medical innovations and products. Thanks to Pontio Innovation they have been able to undertake research and design work which was previously completely beyond their budget.
Pontio helped UW Designs to plan, test and prototype an endoscopy device for CREO Medical, at a fraction of the cost they had previously been faced with. UW Designs is now in a position to develop other viable commercial products and grow their business.
Software that takes the hassle out of school trips
Pontio Innovation has supported North Wales based Semantise Ltd. to develop software that will help schools to dramatically improve their data management.
Their eezeTrip App is designed to dramatically cut down on paper communications between schools and parents, saving valuable time and money.
Semantise, which is based in the North Wales town of Brynrefail, grew out of the School of Education at the University of Bangor.
