The Visionary Behind the Name Who was Albert Gubay?

Albert Gubay was an entrepreneurial genius who built a business empire worth over £700 million.

From humble beginnings in post-war Wales, he rose from selling sweets on market stalls to founding the highly successful Kwik Save Discount chain, proving the power of innovation, resilience, and ambition.

Gubay’s greatest legacy was his generosity: through The Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation, his success continues to change lives.

At Bangor University, we believe the leaders of tomorrow should follow his example; pairing entrepreneurial drive with a strong sense of social responsibility, and shaping a future that benefits both enterprise and society.
