Who is this for? Year 7 - whole class
How long is the programme? Three sessions a week for 12 weeks
What resources are provided? Resources that develop vocabulary acquisition and higher order thinking skill, differentiated at four levels to support a range of learner needs.
Read to Learn provides support for fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills for Year 7 learners. The programme offers a whole-class solution, with a small-group-reading component to enable targeted support and stretch where it’s needed most.
The programme focuses on targeted vocabulary instruction to support language acquisition and deeper word consciousness. It also supports higher-order thinking skill development through the Reciprocal Reading Method.
Age-appropriate, engaging texts are at the heart of every lesson, with four different linguistic ability stages to meet different needs, with the aim of motivating even the most reluctant readers.
The programme will run for approximately 12 weeks, with sessions delivered three times per week by trained school staff.
Our language and literacy programmes are available from September 2026. We are simultaneously conducting trials on each of them to measure effectiveness. The data collected will contribute to our evidence base and guide improvements to the programmes before they are made available nationwide in 2027.
