Our latest Chinese Culture Lunch Club brought a splash of colour to Bangor University’s Confucius Institute with a Peking Opera mask-painting workshop.

It was lovely to welcome students and staff from across Bangor University for a creative introduction to this Chinese performing arts tradition.

Together, we discovered how the colours and patterns used in Peking Opera reveal clues about a character’s personality and role. Then we picked up our paintbrushes and had a go ourselves, decorating miniature masks with our own choice of colours and details.

Everyone had a mask to take home and a little more insight into this distinctive Chinese tradition. Thank you to everyone who joined us and brought their creativity to the table!
