Chinese Paper-Cutting Lunchtime Workshop – Discover Chinese Culture Series!
The Bangor University Confucius Institute brought creativity and cultural discovery to campus through an engaging Chinese paper-cutting workshop, delivered as part of the Discover Chinese Culture free lunchtime series.
The lively session introduced participants to the beauty and symbolism of Chinese paper-cutting, a traditional folk art closely connected with festivals, celebrations and expressions of good fortune. Guided by Confucius Institute tutors, attendees learned step-by-step techniques to transform simple sheets of paper into intricate symmetrical designs inspired by classic Chinese motifs.
The workshop created a relaxed and welcoming space for students, staff, and people from the local community to explore Chinese artistic traditions while developing their own creative skills. Participants enjoyed experimenting with patterns and learning about the cultural meanings behind this centuries-old craft.
All materials were provided, and participants were delighted to take home their own handmade paper-cut artworks as colourful reminders of the experience.
