Discover Dian Cha: A Traditional Chinese Whisked Tea Experience!
Our latest Discover Chinese Culture lunchtime workshop offered a gentle and refreshing introduction to Dian Cha, a traditional Chinese whisked tea method dating back to the Song Dynasty.
Led by tutors from the Bangor University Confucius Institute, the session brought together students, staff, and members of the local community for a calm and welcoming lunchtime experience, centred around tea, culture, and shared discovery.
During the workshop, participants explored the history and cultural significance of Dian Cha, learning how tea was once prepared and enjoyed in ancient China. Through a combination of demonstration and hands-on practice, everyone had the chance to try whisking tea themselves, creating the light, delicate foam that defines this beautiful tradition.
More than just a practical activity, the session offered a moment to slow down. It created a peaceful, reflective space where participants could focus on the sensory experience of tea-making and connect with a different cultural tradition in a meaningful and personal way.
As with many of our lunchtime workshops, the atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with plenty of curiosity, conversation, and shared enjoyment. It was a lovely reminder of how simple cultural experiences can bring people together.
We look forward to welcoming you to future sessions in the series, with more opportunities to explore Chinese arts, crafts, and traditions in a friendly and informal setting.
