Blood transfusion can save a life, but only if the right blood reaches the right patient.
This session introduces the science of blood groups, compatibility and transfusion safety through the kinds of decisions made in hospital laboratories every day.
Students will explore why blood cannot simply be given at random, why O negative blood is so valuable, and how biomedical scientists help prevent dangerous transfusion reactions while managing a limited and precious supply.
