Overall aims and purpose
The module is designed to prepare students with some of the psychomotor skills required during year two of the post graduate programme to meet the required NMC Essential Skills Clusters for entry to the register. During practice placements, students will be able to demonstrate the required knowledge and understanding underpinning the skills, competence and attitudes which are essential to meeting the physical and mental health needs of patients/clients of all ages, and to be able to provide safe and effective care to all patients/clients.
NB: During the 2nd year of this post graduate programme students will be completing the Year 3 competencies of the Ongoing Record of Achievement of Practice Competence.
Course content
The module content will enable students to meet the learning outcomes and requirements of the NMC (2010) essential skills clusters. Practical skills for this Year three module will include, but will not be restricted to the following nor exclude skills that may be added as required:
• CPR and airway management • Intermediate life support (ILS) Interpreting blood analysis • Electrocardiogram (ECG) • Medical device training • Manual handling • Mandatory updating
Assessment Criteria

The On-Going Record of Achievement of Practice Competence Year assessment is Pass/Fail only. Students are required to successfully achieve all practice learning outcomes within the All Wales On-Going Record of Achievement of Practice Competence.
The assessment criteria for the summative written assessment are as follows:
C- C+ to Grade: To achieve a ‘pass’ on the module, students will be required to demonstrate some critical evaluation and understanding of the theoretical principles of reflection and the ability to link theory and evidence to practice.
good
B- to B+ Grade: To achieve a ‘good pass’ the student will need to demonstrate a critical evaluation and application of the theoretical principles of reflection and the ability to link theory and evidence to practice.
excellent
A- to A* Grade: To achieve an ‘excellent pass’ on the module, students will be required to demonstrate comprehensive critical evaluation and application of the theoretical principles of reflection and the ability to link theory and evidence to practice.
Learning outcomes

Demonstrate the required values and attitudes during practice placement whilst undertaking patient/client care.

Demonstrate the ability to safely undertake required psychomotor skills during practice placement to meet the nursing needs of patients/clients.

Critically appraise and articulate an in-depth knowledge of pathophysiology, treatments and care needs of people with a range of health conditions demonstrating the ability to link theory and evidence to clinical practice.

EXAM | MCQ Exam | A 25 question Multiple Choice Examination (MCQ). Students will require to answer True or False to each question and all questions must be answered. Students will have a week to complete the MCQ examination from 11/5/20 and final submission is 18/5/20. |

ESSAY | Reflective portfolio | A reflective diary providing a critical evaluation of the student’s ability to apply nursing theory and evidence to practice learning 4,000 words. (50%) (LO 3). Further information on the requirements for this summative assessment will be provided within the module handbook. |

CLINICAL PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT | Clinical Competencies | Reflective diary on 6 experiences in clinical practice demonstrating the student's ability to clinically evaluate the application of theory to practice Achievement of all practice outcomes within the All Wales On-Going Record of Achievement of Practice Competence Year 3 to achieve progression points 2. Pass/Fail (LO1 & 2). All aspects of the assessments for this module must be achieved. |

1. Purchase of text books, pens and paper. 2. Photocopying and printing 3. Subscription to internet provider to access BU on-line catalogues and Blackboard from home residence. 4. Students will also be required to fund all travel costs to clinical placements during the two year programme.
