Marcel was honoured at the awards ceremony held last night (Thursday, 21 November 2025) at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, London. Run by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA), the event celebrated 13 winners selected from more than 420 nominations submitted by over 120 institutions across the UK. From a shortlist of 63 exceptional finalists, Dr Clusa distinguished himself through the breadth, depth and impact of his contribution to the international student experience.
Recognised by judges for his deep, holistic and innovative approach to student support, Marcel is celebrated for his unwavering commitment to ensuring every international student feels supported, valued and empowered. As a primary point of contact for complex immigration enquiries and essential welfare support, he combines technical expertise with empathy, care and emotional reassurance, consistently going above and beyond to meet students’ needs.
Marcel also plays a central role in welcoming international students to the UK. From coordinating airport arrivals to delivering orientation programmes designed to combat isolation and foster cultural immersion, he ensures that no student feels alone during their time at Bangor.
Marcel, originally from Barcelona, himself entered Bangor University as an international student seventeen years ago, believes it’s important to make international students feel at home, he says: “Being recognised for the work we do at Bangor University in supporting students from all over the World is Fantastic!”
