The rankings are compiled by global higher education analytics firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) with a methodology focused primarily on research performance and international reputation. In recent years, QS has expanded the methodology to also assess sustainability, employability and global engagement.
This year's ranking features more than 1500 universities across 106 higher education systems, including 93 in United Kingdom.
Strong performances were seen across a number of indicators, including Sustainability which saw the University jump by 12 places to position 183 in the world. This indicator evaluates the social and environmental impact of universities in alignment with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
International Students is another area in which the University performed strongly, coming in at 317, giving it a top 25% global position.
On the International Faculty indicator, the University improved by 38 places to attain global position 477. For Citations per Faculty, a top 30% global position, was attained with the University reaching spot 436.
Overall, the University attained a global rank of 567 and came in at position 52 in the United Kingdom.
