Before the Interview
Please arrive 15 minutes before your interview slot start time. When you arrive at the Reichel Building you will have your ID checked, then be asked to wait in an applicant room, where you will be briefed by an Admissions Officer on the logistics of the interview.
You will also be assigned your first station.
Interview Format - Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs)
We’ll be using Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) to assess candidates.
- MMIs consist of 6 interview ‘stations’ with a different interviewer at each station.
- Each station will involve 2 questions. You will have 3 minutes for each question - 6 minutes in total.
- You will also have 3 minutes before each station to read the questions and consider your response.
- Each station is marked separately and independently. Therefore, if you feel one station hasn’t gone well you are still able to make up for it at others.
Stations
The questions will be displayed for 3 minutes before each station. An announcement will be made to 'start reading' and these announcements may be bilingual. Use this time to read the question for your first assigned station and consider your response.
An announcement will be made to 'start station'. The interviewer will read out the first question again for you.
After 3 minutes, there will be an announcement to ‘start next question’ and the interviewer will read out the next question.
There will be a further announcement confirming ‘one minute remaining’, and another confirming ‘end station’
You will then repeat the process for your next station until you’ve completed all 6 stations.
How am I assessed?
Interviewers will be looking at your ability to communicate effectively, assessing your suitability for the course as well as your understanding of important topics related to Medicine and the NHS.
- North Wales Medical School and Insight into a Career in Medicine
- Ethics, Professionalism, Teamwork and Empathy
- NHS/NHS Wales
- Resilience
- Reasoning/Self-Directedness
- Wales
Further information on preparing for interviews is available on the Medical Schools Council website.
End of Interview
After completing all interview stations, you will take part in a short debrief session. You’ll then have the opportunity to join a Q&A with one of our current Medicine students, where you can hear first-hand about their experience studying at Bangor and ask any questions you may have. Guests are invited to accompany you during this part of the visit.
Following this, you’re welcome to join an optional tour of the accommodation at the Ffriddoedd student village.
Accompanying Guests
Applicants are welcome to bring up to two guests with them on the day. However, please note that only applicants will be permitted inside the venue during the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs).
The Reichel Building is conveniently located just a short walk from Upper Bangor and the main High Street, offering nearby options for guests to explore or relax while interviews are taking place.
The process from arrival and registration to the end of the MMI usually takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes.
