Celebrating Community Learning at Bangor University

About the event

Join us for a celebration event highlighting the impact of community learning at Bangor University, bringing together learners, staff, partners and anyone with an interest in lifelong learning.

Delivered in partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai through the Lifelong Learning Framework, this provision has enabled Bangor University to engage with learners across the region through accessible, community-facing short courses.

Since 2024:

41 courses have been delivered
2,532 learners have attended
At least 14 learners have progressed to enrol on undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes at Bangor University.

Over the past two years, community learning has created opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with the University, explore new subjects, build confidence and, in some cases, progress into further study.

This event, supported by the University’s Community Fund, will celebrate the growth and impact of this provision, showcase the civic value of community learning, and highlight progression routes into further study.

During the evening

Participants will have the opportunity to:

Hear from guest speaker Ieuan Wyn Jones on the importance of lifelong learning and its role in communities across Wales
Learn about the impact of Bangor University's community learning partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai
Listen to the experiences of learners and staff involved in the programme
Explore progression opportunities into further and higher education
Meet fellow learners, staff and community partners over refreshments

Who should attend?

This event is open to learners, staff, partners and anyone interested in community learning, lifelong learning and widening access to higher education.

Colleagues interested in delivering a short course or contributing to future community learning activity are also warmly encouraged to attend. We are currently finalising the community learning programme for the next academic year and would welcome conversations with colleagues who may be interested in contributing.

Language and Translation

The event will be conducted primarily through the medium of Welsh. Simultaneous translation into English will be available for those who require it.
