Research Interests

I research the relationship between music, health and wellbeing, and am keen to explore innovative ways of capturing the social impact of music-making. I am interested in the role that music has to play in:

  • Developing intergenerational relationships

Over the last five years, I have worked closely with Pontio Arts & Innovation Centre to develop intergenerational music programmes for school pupils and people with dementia, on the Corneli Cudd/ Hidden Corners projects.

Further information about the projects available here:

  • Creating communities of belonging

I have carried out extensive research into the relationship between singing and wellbeing, focusing in particular on the choral singing tradition in Wales.  I am currently developing this research area further to investigate the ‘musicking’ practices of Welsh-language speakers, and the role music plays in creating communities of belonging for minority language speakers.

  • Bridging the gap between higher education institutions and local communities

I always aim to combine research, teaching and employability opportunities for students. Through my research, I aim to develop opportunities for music students to get new experiences by collaborating on innovative projects with local organisations.

Example of local collaborators: Codi’r To: http://www.codirto.com/english/index.html
