Bilingualism is a natural part of life at Bangor University. This is not much of a surprise considering that Bangor is located in the county with the highest % of Welsh speakers. In fact around 70% of our staff have skills in the Welsh language. It is therefore possible for you to receive support through the medium of Welsh in all aspects of your life as a student here, including the Student Services department.
Academically, you will notice that the Welsh-medium lectures and seminar groups tend to be smaller in size, which means that students tend to feel more comfortable in their surroundings. There is, therefore, a greater opportunity for those students to ask questions of their lecturers and receive a little more support.
There is also a strong Welsh speaking community amongst our students beyond the lectures, particularly through the UMCB activities of the Bangor Welsh Students ' Union.
We therefore trust that any student who is a Welsh speaker, no matter how fluent, would feel very welcome at Bangor University and that this is the best place for you to use and develop your Welsh language skills.
