Confucius Classrooms

Confucius Classrooms are an initiative supported by the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF), non-governmental charitable organisation, including an alliance of Chinese universities amongst which, Peking University, Fudan University, Beijing Language and Culture University, and other social organisations and companies.

Based within schools and colleges, and awarded designated funding, Confucius Classrooms are intended as local hubs, which can both stimulate and support the innovative teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture across communities.

Each classroom hub is given the freedom to operate according to its particular context with the aim of introducing Chinese language and culture to the children and young people in its catchment area.

The Confucius Institute at Bangor University has been awarded funding from CIEF to establish four Confucius Classrooms in the north Wales region in partnership with schools, colleges and local authorities.

The schools involved include two local Secondaries and further two Primaries :

Friars High School in Bangor

The Confucius Classroom in Friars opened doors in 2017. However, Confucius Institute at Bangor University has been offering Mandarin classes and activities in the school since 2013. The school acts as a regional hub for teaching Chinese language and culture and we are currently working with the school on expanding the number of Mandarin lessons and developing new and exciting cultural activities for everyone.

For more information about each classroom, please go to the school’s website.
