Weaving Good Wishes at Bangor University’s Chinese Culture Lunch Club!
A simple cord, a series of careful loops and a wish for good fortune! Bangor University’s Confucius Institute brought traditional Chinese knot-making to its Chinese Culture Lunch Club, offering participants a creative introduction to this meaningful craft.
The workshop explored the symbolism woven into Chinese knots, which decorate homes and celebrations as expressions of happiness, peace and good fortune. Participants also discovered why red holds a special place in Chinese culture, representing joy and auspicious wishes.
Following a guided demonstration, participants folded, looped and gently tightened their cords to create decorative knots symbolising peace and safety. The activity offered an opportunity to slow down, try a traditional skill and connect with Chinese culture through hands-on creativity.
Each handmade knot became a keepsake to take home or a thoughtful gift to share, a little piece of Chinese tradition carrying warm wishes beyond the workshop.
