Sir Hugh Owen Memorial Lecture 2017
Curo’n hyderus ar y drws tri-enw:
golwg ar le’r Gymraeg yn adolygiad Donaldson
Professor Mererid Hopwood
Faculty of Education and Communities, University of Wales Trinity Saint David
In this lecture, Professor Hopwood analyses Succesful Futures, an independent review of the curriculum and assessment arrangements in Wales undertaken by Professor Graham Donaldson, and explores the potential for Welsh to play a key role beyond the ‘Languages, Literacy and Communications Area of Learning and Experience’ described by him. Bearing in mind the target of ‘a million Welsh speakers’, what positive changes can be achieved by adopting a more holistic approach to languages in the schools of Wales? Viewing bilingualism as a means to achieve the four core aims of the new curriculum, Professor Hopwood asks what embarking ‘on a bilingual journey’ entails. The lecture is based on an article by the lecturer, published in the Wales Journal of Education, Volume 19, 2017, pp. 69-89.
