Race Equality at Bangor University

Inclusivity is one the four key values underpinning Bangor University’s Strategy 2030, outlining equal access, equal rights and equal justice to all. Race equality at Bangor University is key to this value.

The Welsh Government’s Anti-racist Wales Action Plan sets out the vision for Wales to become an anti-racist country. The Plan reflects the Welsh Government’s firm commitment to building an inclusive and equitable society for black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities in Wales.

In 2022, Bangor University became a member of Advance HE’s Race Equality Charter (REC), and in April 2025 we achieved Bronze Award.

The REC’s mission is to improve the representation, experience, progression and success of black, Asian and minoritised ethnic staff and students within higher education. It provides a rigorous and robust framework through which institutions work to critically reflect and act on institutional and cultural barriers standing in the way of the progression and success of minoritised staff and students.
