What skills are tested?
The Password BUELT is made up of five test modules – reading, writing, knowledge, listening and speaking. The test takes 4 hours and 20 minutes to complete and is run in two parts.
Part One assesses reading and writing and the Part 2 assesses grammar (knowledge), listening and speaking. Test-takers can take a 10-minute break between the two parts.
Who can apply?
If you are interested in applying to Bangor University or are already an offer holder, you can apply to take this test.
How much does it cost?
The BUELT costs £60.
How do I apply?
Book and pay for your Bangor University English Language Test at the Bangor University online shop. After paying for the test, you will receive an email within 48 hours providing further instructions about scheduling your test, and setting up an account with the online proctors, Examity.
When can I take my exam?
Tests can be booked ‘on demand’ with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice.
What do I need for the exam?
You need a government issued photo ID. The exam is computer-based, so you will need a suitable device, such as a desktop computer, laptop or tablet, with a webcam and speakers.
How can I prepare for my test?
Once you have paid for your test, you can request some sample questions, which will help you to familiarise yourself with the test format and the types of questions you can expect to see in the actual exam.
When will I receive my results?
Candidates can usually expect to receive their results within a week of taking the exam. However, during busy times, this will take longer.
How many times can I take the test?
A maximum of three attempts can be made. If the required level is not achieved after three attempts, further English tuition is recommended. Read the policy here.
