Cancelled: The Final 385 Yards: Editing Your Thesis

Dr Tara Smith - School of Law

Writing a PhD is often compared to running a marathon: it’s an endurance race, not a sprint. Those final 385 yards in a marathon, after running a full 26 miles, can seem simultaneously trivial and impossible in the context of the overall effort to get to the finish line. The same can be said of editing your PhD thesis prior to submission – students are often tired of reading their own writing and frequently prioritise other tasks in that crucial final phase prior to submission. In this workshop we will discuss the importance of prioritising the editing process at all stages of your doctoral journey, but especially in the 385 yards before submission! We will also explore some practical exercises that will help you to build your skills in this regard.
