Our Support is focused on four themes, helping you to Explore, Experience, Articulate and Connect, so that no matter what stage you are at in your Career thinking, we are with you every step of the way.
The Careers Studio is located on the first floor of the Main Arts Library, and is open Monday – Friday 10am-3pm. There's no appointment necessary, just drop-in at a time that is best for you.

My top careers tip, despite not being original (!), is apply for EVERYTHING! It doesn’t matter whether you feel you are the best person for the job, or currently have the right skills set. Applying for as much as you can both increases your application skills and helps increase your confidence putting yourself out there. I would have never thought I would be completing a PhD straight after consecutive BSC and MSC, but I applied and got it! You never know what job you might get if you don’t apply for it!

Apply for summer internships whenever you can! They’re one of the best ways to gain relevant industry experience, explore different career paths, and demonstrate your initiative and enthusiasm to future employers.

Don’t let self-doubt stop you from taking action. Research thoroughly, talk to people in the same field/job, prepare well, think about what makes you stand out, highlight your strengths and don’t forget to tailor your CVs based on the role.

My top career tip is to step outside of your comfort zone! Whether they are small or big steps, you are sure to learn new things about not just your work, but yourself.

I think my biggest career tip is not to limit yourself by what you think is possible, but to build relationships and a network around you. The more you push your career, the more you are set to get out of it. I like the mentality of if you don't ask, you don't receive.

Don’t be afraid to take a step that you think is in the wrong direction. Every experience provides you with valuable skills and sometimes a new understanding of your field, life or goals, which can really help you move forward with your career!
