Crime Prevention
Although North Wales is a safe place to live and study, there are always things you can do to reduce your chance of becoming the victim of crime.
Bangor University work closely with our local police force, North Wales Police, to ensure that students affected by any form of crime can access help and advice. North Wales Police provide us with lots of helpful information about a range of issues.
Out and About
This information leaflet, provides advice on things you can do when you’re Out and About, including when you’re out on a night out, at a cash machine and what you can do to keep your personal possessions safe.
Keeping your Home Secure
North Wales Police also advise students to close windows and lock doors when they’re going to be leaving their rooms or homes unattended and this flyer contains information on how you can register your personal items on immobilise.com
Personal Safety
Finally, this leaflet about Personal Safety, provides a Top 10 list of things you can do to stay safe in general.
Getting in Touch with the Police
Although it’s unlikely that you’ll become a victim of a crime whilst you’re here in Bangor, it’s important to remember that if you ever need to report something to the police in an emergency, dial 999. If you need to report something and it’s not an emergency, that is, there is no immediate risk to yourself or others, dial 101.
Sexual and Domestic Violence
If you or someone you know is at risk of, or has experience sexual violence, domestic abuse and/or violence against women and you need to talk to someone, you can call the Live Fear Free Helpline on 0808 810 800 where you can talk to a friendly and understanding trained individual for further advice and/or support.
Students affected by any form of Sexual Violence, Harassment, Hate Crime or Racial Abuse can also talk to our dedicated member of staff, Helen Munro by emailing inclusive@bangor.ac.uk
