Enhancing food security in Ethiopia: The role of agroforestry
A short film produced by Bangor University and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) has just been released and is available on YouTube. The footage was shot in Tigray Region of northern Ethiopia and contrasts two study sites that have varying levels of tree cover. It is based on research conducted by Emelda Hachoofwe (a former MSc Agroforestry student) and Genevieve Lamond (Teaching Associate in SENRGY) in 2012 and followed up in 2013 by Martha Cronin (a consultant at ICRAF but also another of our MSc Agroforestry graduates). The landscapes are dramatic and indicate the importance of vegetative cover for reversing severe land degradation and improving food security.
