Law and Criminology students visit police firearms training centre

On Wednesday 7th December 2011, Professor Suzannah Linton, Chair of International Law at Bangor Law Professor Suzannah Linton with Bangor Law and Criminology students at the North Wales Police Firearms Training CentreSchool, led a group of Law and Criminology students on a successful field trip to the North Wales Police Firearms Training Centre. The students were introduced to the training of police in use of force and firearms, and then had a fascinating tour of the specially constructed training site. They were fortunate also to have an exciting two hour briefing by two Specialist Firearms Officers. The briefing covered issues such as the legal regime on use of force and firearms, basic police tactics, human rights in modern policing, weapons use to match threat assessments, and the importance of specialised training. The students were also able to examine an Armed Response Vehicle, and discussed its use in policing activities. The discussions covered scenarios such as hostage rescue, armed robberies and terrorist attacks.
