Driving Athletic Performance

Our research impact

In collaboration with UK Sport, and other partners across the UK, researchers at Bangor are undertaking world leading research exploring the identification of high-level sports performers.

Using innovative talent development systems, our researchers are asking the question: ‘What does it take for an athlete to truly thrive’?

Findings from the ‘Pathway to Podium’ project are of international significance and have already been implemented by Swim England, GB Hockey, and British Canoeing.

“The results of such research filter into our degree content immediately, at times before it is widely available across the sector. Our students stand out from other Sport & Exercise Science graduates by taking this learning to potential employers.”

Gavin Lawrence,  Senior Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science , Bangor University

The academic expertise of Dr Gavin Lawrence, Professor Tim Woodman and their team within Sport and Exercise Sciences at Bangor University, alongside the applied expertise of staff at UK Sport and the EIS, means the findings of this project  have the potential to shape UK Sports developmental systems at all levels.
