Distance Learning Courses
Distance learning is the ideal choice for those who need to combine study around other commitments such as a busy professional and/or home life. It enables you to gain a recognised qualification from your own home or workplace, without loss of income or the additional costs and worries associated with moving to another city or country. There is also the advantage of some flexibility, allowing your studies to be tailored to suit your particular professional needs, providing opportunities for promotion or career enhancement.
We currently offer postgraduate distance-learning programmes in:
- MSc Food Security in the Changing Environment
- MSc Forestry
- MSc Tropical Forestry
- MSc Tropical Forestry (with International Commonwealth Scholarship)
Who are these programmes for?
The distance learning programmes developed by the School of Natural Sciences are suitable for those already working in forestry, natural resource management, agriculture, food and conservation, as well as people wishing to move into these exciting and vibrant professions. Our distance learning programmes are unique within the UK and have been specifically designed to allow you flexibility in your studies. We take pride in the fact that our programmes are up-to-date and are entirely relevant to these modern and globally-important industries.
The Food Security in the Changing Environment programme and its individual modules will interest professionals who work full time in the agri-food industry, in conservation and the environmental, farmers, and policy makers. Full time students wishing to pursue a postgraduate degree that culminates in employability in these sectors may also be interested in this field of study.
The forestry distance learning programmes are extremely relevant to those who wish to develop their existing skills and knowledge in forestry and related topics, and/or are looking for a career change. These programmes are accredited by the Institute of Chartered Foresters, providing a unique pathway to Chartered Forester status for those unable to study on an accredited full-time programme.
So, whether you are an individual or an organisation looking for opportunities for continuing professional development (CPD) or are interested in earning a postgraduate certificate, a postgraduate diploma or an MSc, we can almost certainly offer you something appropriate. If you want to go even further, we also have opportunities for you to pursue a professional doctorate in Agriculture and the Environment.
†Please note: we currently have no plans to launch any undergraduate (BSc) distance learning programmes.
