Designing the Future: Product Design Show and Conference showcases students’ projects and inspiring talks

Product Design at Bangor hosted their annual Design Show and conference. The two extraordinary design events captivated audiences and celebrated the ingenuity of students and professionals alike. The events, held in Pontio, showcased the exceptional work of Product Design degree students and featured insightful talks by prominent industry experts.

The Product Design degree show

The Product Design degree show exhibited the remarkable project work of first, second, and third-year students, offering a glimpse into their creative prowess. From a meticulously crafted CNC machined chair to an unbreakable canoe paddle, ladder stabiliser, bespoke loft shelving, and innovative animal and dog furniture and harness, the displays demonstrated the students' dedication and mastery of their craft. Additionally, the show featured a visionary idea for the redevelopment of Bangor's student centre, led by collaborating companies, further exemplifying the real-world impact of their designs.

Among the standout student projects was the 1st year metal-crafted moon gate, developed under the guidance of designer Gerallt Evans. The task provided an opportunity for students to showcase their skills in metal craftsmanship, resulting in breathtaking creations that pushed the boundaries of imagination and design.

One of the students, Leanne Melia (a 2nd year student on Product Design BSc) said

I was thrilled to demonstrate some of our project work. In one coursework we were tasked to find alternative uses for wool. I am proud to present creations like the woollen bowl and the belt-clip for tools. Wool is such a versatile material, and through our designs, we aimed to challenge preconceived notions and highlight its potential beyond traditional applications.

Being part of this exhibition allowed me to share my passion for innovative design. As a second-year student, I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to present my work next year. This exhibition is not only a platform to highlight students’ creativity and technical skills but also a chance to contribute to the vibrant design community at Bangor University.
