BIO: I am a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology and employability lead for the school. Before arriving in Bangor, I spent 8 years working as a strength & conditioning coach and sport scientist within various performance pathways and professional sports. My teaching and research reflects this interest in applied sport science and physical preparation of athletes. I have ongoing research in athlete monitoring and assessment during the training process, injury risk factors in sport and athlete development in performance pathways.
Qualifications
- PhD: Exercise Physiology
2015 - MSc: Sport Physiology
Liverpool John Moores University, 2008 - Professional: PGCE
Manchester Metropolitan University, 2006 - Professional: FA Fitness Trainers Award
The Football Association, 2004–2006 - Other: Diploma in Science & Football
Liverpool John Moores University, 1997 - BSc: Applied Biochemistry

Overview
Following an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry (BSc, JMU) and 3-years working within academic (University of Liverpool) and pharmaceutical research (Astra Zeneca), Julian returned to Liverpool John Moores University to study for an MSc in Sport Physiology. An 8-year period followed working as a physiologist and strength & conditioning coach within professional soccer, rugby union and international hockey before starting a PhD at Bangor University in 2010. In 2013-2014 Julian was a Postdoctoral Fellow within the School before being appointed as a Lecturer in 2014. Within this role, Julian teaches on modules focused on applied sport science and performance physiology and also continues his applied work acting as a Performance Director (Board) for Squash Wales and a performance consultant with the North Wales Rugby Development Region.
