Overview

1.Equipment specifications automatic exposure control,Quality Assurance 2.Mobile x-ray sets, Image Intensifiers, fluoroscopic units, Photofluorography 3.Principles of US imaging, including Doppler and echocardiography CT scanning including multislice RNI, including PET and SPECT scanning, MRI, including safety aspects 4.Maintenance/ planning 5.Physiology of digestion, metabolism and nutrition 6.Hormonal action on tissues/organs 7.Disease Mechanisms, tumour classification. 8.Cross sectional and radiographic anatomy of body systems

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -- Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. - Basic ability in applying what is learned to common practice scenarios. - Basic understanding of professional accountability issues.Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- grade in the assignment to in order to pass the theory component of the module.

-good -- Good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. - Good ability in applying what is learned to a range of common and less common practice scenarios. - Good understanding of professional accountability issues. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria.

-excellent -- Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. - Very good ability in applying what is learned to a range of common, less common and uniquely specific practice scenarios. - Very good understanding of professional accountability issues. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of cross sectional anatomy across the range of cross sectional modalities

  • Discuss and analyse the mechanisms involved in common disease processes and reflect on specific imaging pathways used

  • Evaluate the range of equipment used in the practice of diagnostic imaging to enable safe and efficient selection of most appropriate equipment

  • Relate anatomical and pathological appearances to a range of imaging modalities, evaluating the features and origins of common pathologies demonstrated.-

  • Understand the pharmacology of drugs typically encountered within their practise, and demonstrate knowledge of their administration, evaluating the methods of administration
