Law students celebrate continued sponsorship from BPP
Representatives from various Bangor Law School projects and initiatives have welcomed a special guest to the University as they celebrate yet another year of sponsorship from BPP.BPP Universities Education Liaison, Dave Fallon (far left) and Stephen Clear, BPP-Bangor University Liaison (far right) with representatives of some of the student Projects to benefit from BPP's continued sponsorship.
BPP’S Universities Education Liaison for the North West, Dave Fallon, visited Bangor to mark the beginning of an academic year that sees more of Bangor Law students’ initiatives than ever before receiving much-needed funding from BPP. This financial support is what makes the Law School’s various extracurricular activities possible, and the list of recipients has this year been extended to include Bangor Students’ Law Society, Street Law, the Innocence Project, the Law Society’s football team and the McLaren Moot Court Competition and its Welsh-medium equivalent, the Griffiths Cup. Bangor University is particularly fortunate as it is the only university in Wales to receive BPP funding for the academic year 2011/2012.
The continued support and funding of BPP highlights the increasing importance of participating in co- and extra-curricular activities. Bangor Law School recently became one of the first academic schools within Bangor University to participate in the Bangor Employability Award, a scheme designed to boost students’ employability by encouraging them to undertake work placements, volunteering, part-time work, and even further studies beyond their degree. The BEA ultimately aims to help students develop the sort of transferable skills that will prove valuable in the increasingly competitive graduate job market.
In support of the BEA initiative, BPP will be offering an impressive programme of career-enhancing events to Bangor Law students. These include the free Certificate of Commercial Awareness programme, a tour of BPP Manchester, and workshops on career paths, how to fund a legal career and how to secure a training contract.
For further information relating to BPP events at Bangor please contact Stephen Clear, BPP-Bangor University Liaison.
