Owain Arwel Hughes

Owain Arwel Hughes
Studying: Cymraeg (Welsh)
From: Anglesey, Wales

"I was brought up on Anglesey, and it was a big decision for me to choose to study at a university so close to where I grew up. I had heard about the welcoming atmosphere at Bangor University, and was keen to study at a university where the Welsh community is stronger than anywhere else!

“I'm studying Welsh at Bangor, and I've also benefited from the bursaries available to support those who choose to study through the medium of Welsh.

"I am a first-year representative at UMCB (the Welsh Students' Union), and I have also enjoyed participating in inter-college arrangements, and have had a great experience preparing for trips. I have also enjoyed contributing to the weekly activities of Y Cymric, the social arm of UMCB.

"I live in JMJ Hall, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've made so many new friends here, and really feel like I'm part of a close-knit community where one core thing connects us all; the Welsh language. If I were to describe my time at Bangor University in one word, it would be: awesome!"

"I benefited from the bursaries available to support those who choose to study through the medium of Welsh."
