Linguistics, English Language and Biligualism About Us

Linguistics has been taught at Bangor University since the 1960s, making us one of the first departments dedicated to the study of Linguistics in the UK.

The formation of the School of Linguistics and English Language in 2003 drew together the long tradition of excellent teaching and research in Linguistics with the study of the English Language.

Languages for All

As well as our main degree programmes, we also provide modules which allow students across the University the opportunity to develop their language skills throughout their time at Bangor via free our Languages for All programme. These modules can be taken for credit or as an extra-curricular option and are a great way to gain extra language skills and enhance your employability.

The Bangor Linguistics Circle is a Linguistics research seminar series run by postgraduate researchers (PGRs) in the Department of Linguistics, English Language and Bilingualism with the support of our staff. In the past, we have had presentations from expert researchers in areas including Computational Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Bilingualism, Literacy Development, Atypical Language Development, Psycholinguistics, Metaphor, Discourse Analysis and Phonetics.
