Celebrating our Local Heroes and Sheroes - Bangor University Launch Event
The event will be a celebration of local people of diverse backgrounds. It will comprise a mix of talks and presentations, exhibitions, films, art and performances. The principal part of the event will be performances by artists such as Indian dancers, Caribbean drummers, African singers, all of whom live in and around Bangor. Speakers will be able to talk about their lived experiences or share details of their creative work. Surrounding the event will be artworks, photographs and information put together by local people to share their stories.
The main leader will be Dr Marian Gwyn, who will be acting in her capacity as head of heritage for Race Council Cymru, the principal partner in this event. Speakers and performers will include: Jean-Samuel Mfikela, a Cameroonian artist; Shweta Jadhav Patil, a traditional Indian dancer; and Audrey West, a Jamaican poet. Benefits will include having a better understanding of the communities that live in and around Bangor.
This event will be a free event that will be open to all.
This event will be held at Pontio Arts Centre, which is a public arts venue in Bangor, which is also part of Bangor University.
