Clearing Success: Victoria D'Ambrogio

[0:00] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria speaking sat at a table with books and artwork behind her.

[0:05] Hi, my name is Victoria. I'm in my fourth year. I'm from near Liverpool and I'm studying law with Italian.

[0:13] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A student sat on a wall typing on a laptop with a coffee and the sea behind them.

[0:13] I unfortunately did not get the results I was expecting on the day but everything worked out fine.

[0:21] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria is sat on a plush yellow sofa with decorative pillows and art work behind her.

[0:21] I knew I definitely wanted to study law with Italian,

[0:24] so the first thing I did was look at other universities who study who allowed law in Italian

[0:25] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A student on the stand in the University Moot Court in a Court grown.

[0:31] and Bangor was one of these places.

[0:34] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Aerial shot of the Menai Straits and Menai Bridge.

[0:34] Going through clearing at Bangor was such a relieving experience.

[0:38] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A member of University staff sitting by a computer speaking on the Clearing Helpline.

[0:40] All the anxiety I had was taken away through clearing with Bangor.

[0:42] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A second member of University staff sitting by a computer speaking on the Clearing Helpline.

[0:47] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria is sat on a plush yellow sofa with decorative pillows and art work behind her.

[0:47] I did speak to someone on the phone on the helpline.

[0:50] I phoned up the number on the website and it was very quick to get through to them and they were very helpful.

[0:57] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Three students sat on brown leather sofas, chatting at Barlow's café and Bar.

[0:57] I did not feel apprehensive coming to Bangor being a clearing student, I felt completely welcomed.

[1:02] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A group of students walking together outside University Accommodation.

[1:03] I felt like I deserved to be there. Everyone was so lovely and fitting in was not a problem.

[1:06] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A group of students sat chatting together within the University's Student Union.

[1:10] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria is sat on a plush yellow sofa with decorative pillows and art work behind her.

[1:10] It's so nice to be in nature as opposed to in a big city, which can be very intimidating

[1:17] For your first time away from home.

[1:19] You have a very supportive community around you. The teachers are super supportive.

[1:19] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Three students sat on a brown leather sofa in a local café looking and laughing at a smartphone.

[1:23] You make amazing friends through the societies.

[1:25] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Four students sat out on the terrace near the Main University Building overlooking Bangor.

[1:28] There's so many societies to join

[1:30] so you always can make friends so easily and you always have a great time.

[1:34] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria is sat on a plush yellow sofa with decorative pillows and art work behind her.

[1:34] I have joined quite a few societies in my time at Bangor, including dance, athletics, trampolining,

[1:38] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Students in a studio, dancing.

[1:41] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Aerial shot of Treborth athletics track, the Menai Straits and Menai Bridge.

[1:43] just a few to choose from, but there's so many more and they're all amazing.

[1:44] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] 6 students in a gym hall with trampolines.

[1:47] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria is sat on a plush yellow sofa with decorative pillows and art work behind her.

[1:47] Bangor was definitely the right choice for me.

[1:50] Everything happens for a reason and obviously I didn't get into my first choice of university

[1:56] but I don't regret my choice at all. I feel so happy here and I've had the best time.

[1:58] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A group of students sharing pizza and chatting in a local pizzeria.

[2:03] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Victoria is sat on a plush yellow sofa with decorative pillows and art work behind her.

[2:03] Anyone awaiting their results and worried about going through clearing should not worry at all.

[2:08] It's something completely out of your hands. You don't know what's going to happen on the day,

[2:10] but I can assure you that should you go through clearing and you call up Bangor,

[2:19] You'll feel so much at ease and so happy.

Clearing Success: Max Robinson

[0:00] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Clip of Max sat on a picnic bench with his phone.

[0:05] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Aerial shot of the Main Arts Building and surrounding buildings.

[0:06] My name is Max Robinson. I'm a second year accounting and finance student, and I come from West Yorkshire.

[0:09] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A student and professor in a computer room looking at a computer screen.

[0:12] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Max sat on a bright green sofa with art work and a shelf in the background.

[0:12] I definitely have heard about clearing, uh, before receiving my results.

[0:17] I heard people talking about it almost like it was a looming threat, but I really don't think it was that bad.

[0:23] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A person in a café on their laptop looking at the Bangor University Clearing webpage.

[0:23] When I realised I didn't get the results I wanted, I immediately thought about clearing. I knew what it was, but I didn't know much else.

[0:29] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Max sat on a bright green sofa with art work and a shelf in the background.

[0:31] So it was very much an intense hour of googling and researching and trying to figure out what, what I could possibly be doing next.

[0:40] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Two students walking down the stairs in Pontio and chatting.

[0:40] When I was phoning Bangor University, the person on the other end of the phone was extremely helpful

[0:44] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A shot of the Main Arts Building.

[0:44] by telling me exactly what I needed to do,

[0:48] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A member of staff sat on the computer speaking on the Clearing Helpline.

[0:48] because I had no idea where I was going for clearing, and I didn't exactly know the process.

[0:52] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A member of staff sat on the computer speaking on the Clearing Helpline.

[0:52] And they managed to explain it all to me extremely quickly and help me with my course choosing as well.

[0:56] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A group of students in a room having a meeting, sat on tables with their laptops.

[0:56] Bangor University stood out to me because it was

[1:01] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A group of students sat on the desk on the Pontio balcony with their laptops.

[1:01] very public about how inclusive it was with its students in all aspects of its education

[1:06] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Two students walking through the iron gates outside Main Arts, chatting.

[1:08] and compared to other places I'd been looking at, they seemed very cut off and very separated from the student population,

[1:11] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] A student standing in the Student Union reception area, speaking to a member of the Student Union Staff.

[1:14] and it was quite refreshing to see somebody that was willing to hear the voice

[1:17] [VISUAL DESCRIPTION] Max sat on a bright green sofa with art work and a shelf in the background.

[1:18] And I was very eager to talk.

Clearing success Ben Shone: Biomedical Science

Ben Shone came to Bangor University through Clearing. He tells us his about his experience of getting his A-Level results and how he was offered a place on the Biomedical Science degree here at Bangor.

I phoned a lecturer during Clearing week and she described the course to me in more detail and encouraged me to try it. I'm very glad I did. I had wanted to attend Bangor but wasn't sure if I was up to it with being a carer and having teenage children. Studying as a mature student has been challenging but extremely rewarding, I have gained a lot of confidence from the last three years.

Clearing success Cameron Arkle: Psychology

Before applying through Clearing to Bangor, I was going to be studying at another university, but I am so glad I made the switch to study here instead. Bangor feels more welcoming and everything you need during your studies is right on your doorstep.

Not only was I offered a place to study the course I wanted to but the staff kept in contact throughout the process to keep me updated and also ensure I was okay. I was also offered a campus tour, after accepting my place, which also helped as it meant I was not going into my studies without even knowing the University.

Henry, who has been Undeb Bangor Vice-President for Sport (2019-2020) and President (2020-21) talks about how he came to Bangor University through Clearing.
