Recently submitted paper: Owen, C.M. & Thomas, E. M. (submitted 31 January, 2018). Exploring the use of error analysis to identify markers of literacy difficulties in Welsh-English bilinguals’ written texts. Language and Education: Special Issue.
I am currently in my third year of a PhD in Welsh and Literacy at the School of Education and Human Development at Bangor University. The research study involves exploring the markers of literacy difficulty in Welsh, with the view of creating a screening tool to be used by professionals working with children in Welsh schools.
During my Masters degree In 2010 I completed a quantitative piece of research on Children’s attitudes to learning, exploring the influences of gender, attainment, age and self-esteem on children aged 5-11 years.
I have worked as a Research Project Support Officer within a project on person perception across development in the School of Psychology, Bangor University. The project looked at the person perception skills of typically developing children and children with ASD aged 5-12 years.
More recently I have been involved in an Erasmus+ project on supporting social and emotional competences of Pre-School children from disadvantaged or culturally different environments. This involved presenting at and attending 3 training weeks located in Bangor, Prague and Slovakia.
I have also been involved in a local project within the School of Education which was a review and analysis of the factors and effects of poverty and rural isolation on educational outcomes. I worked as a Research Support officer within this project.
