This module gives students an understanding about the pathophysiology of common chronic diseases, including an appreciation of the role lifestyle plays in the risk of developing these diseases. The module will also provide insight about the role of exercise in preventing and treating these diseases. The module provides core knowledge to students wishing to pursue careers in exercise rehabilitation and clinical physiology.
Cynnwys cwrs
The module will consist of interactive seminars and self-study. Students will learn about common chronic diseases including (but not limited to) coronary heart disease, autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and multiple sclerosis), stroke, and chronic kidney disease. A special lecture will be provided about the role of exercise during pregnancy. A novel aspect of this module is that real patients will be coming in to talk to patients about how their condition affects their day to day life as well as the role exercise plays in alleviating symptoms and improving outcomes.
