Alumnus wins Study UK Alumni Award in Vietnam
Huge congratulations to Bangor University alumnus Long Vu (Marine Biology MSc, 2017) on winning the Science and Sustainability category of the Vietnam Study UK Alumni Awards 2026. Long was recognised for the social impact of his work in the field of biodiversity conservation and in the study of endangered species.
Every year, the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of international UK alumni worldwide. These awards honour international leaders who have leveraged their UK education to make significant contributions to their communities, industries, and countries. Long Vu was announced as winner for Vietnam at a ceremony held in Hanoi on Saturday, 28th February.
Long is the Founder and Director of the Center for Biodiversity conservation and Endangered Species (CBES) in Vietnam, a not-for-profit research organization which studies the ecology of endangered fauna and flora to inform conservation. Long is also the founder of Conservation In Motion (CIM), an environmental consultancy that helps companies integrate wildlife protection into development projects. CIM has collaborated with various international corporations to address the impacts of multiple wind energy developments on seabirds and marine mammals in Vietnam.
Since graduating from Bangor with his MSc in Marine Biology, Long has remained a strong advocate for the University and studying in the UK. He regularly shares his UK experience to encourage young professionals to consider studying in the UK and has spoken at events organised by the British Embassy and Consulate General.
Of his time at Bangor, Long says: “Studying at Bangor University was a transformative experience that played a crucial role in shaping both my career and character. I learned how to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, to work respectfully across belief systems, and to navigate international work cultures with empathy and efficiency. Outside the classroom, I found joy and inspiration in the UK's historic towns, cultural heritage and stunning landscapes.”
During the Study UK Alumni Awards ceremony, a video from Bangor’s Vice-Provost Prof. Oliver Turnbull was shown in which he congratulated Long and expressed the University’s pride in his accomplishments.
Congratulations Long! We’re delighted that your terrific work has been recognised by the Study UK Alumni Awards.
