Projects within Work Package 2
- OxEd whole class programme: A Reception–Y1 oral language programme improving vocabulary, listening comprehension, and narrative skills. A Welsh version adapted for the unique properties of the Welsh language is currently being developed.
- RILL (Research Informed Literacy with Language) : For Years 3–4, RILL provides a structured approach to literacy including oral language, reading, and phonics-based reading intervention using Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) principles.
- RILL whole class programme: For years 3-4, RILL while class is designed to improve decoding, fluency and reading comprehension and confidence for all readers in a classroom setting.
- Read to Learn: A secondary-level programme (Year 7) supporting struggling readers through targeted decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension work.
These programmes are in the trial phase. Researchers within CAL:ON Cymru are testing how well they work. The data collected will contribute to our evidence base and guide improvements to the programmes before they are made available nationwide in 2027.
