Amcanion cyffredinol

To develop effectiveness as a manager of information systems, and as a collaborator with information systems professionals in defining appropriate applications including those in online businesses.

Cynnwys cwrs

The module will discuss the role of Information systems in business and how they are managed. Particular emphasis will be based upon online models and innovative new businesses that use e-business to a whole or greater extent. Business systems concepts, business processes and business systems are covered but with relevance to real life organisations. This includes communication, networks, software, and models for effective virtual communication. The iImpact of technology on working life, including autonomous cars, and new models of working are analysed. Case studies and many examples will be utilised. How technology is changed and developed including stages in systems development projects, such as analysis, specification, design and implementation will be covered. The role of security and ethics is discussed and issues related to data privacy are discussed

Control and security, in networked environments, including intranet and internet is discussed and issues related to the ethical issues of data are considered. The module concludes with the role of social media on online businesses and the impact of new technologies, including AI on the Internet of Things and FinTech.

Business report Students are asked to investigate a contemporary issue related to the use of technology and its impact on business, consumers and wider society. They are expected to draw on class discussions, academic literature, the business press, practitioner journals, newspapers and course readings (online and offline). They are expected to explore general information sources to increase familiarity with the topic and context and produce a balanced summary of current thinking in the emerging discipline. They need to use information from course readings and discussions to identify seminal sources on a topic. Subjects relate to the modern uses of technology such as the impact of the Internet of Things (IOT), Autonomous Vehicles (AV), Artificial Intelligence in decision making or robotics and their use in Business. They need to research scholarly information from an international range of articles identifying scope, content, and application of key concepts making logical supporting arguments about how the technology will transform businesses and society in general. They need to consider the opportunities for businesses and any potential problems and issues. They are encouraged not to overly rely on biased company websites but to find independent, objective sources of information such as academic journal articles to support the work. The business report should contain four parts: Executive Summary, Main body, Recommendations and Conclusion. References should be based upon the Harvard Referencing System
