David Kissa Ocama- MSc Forestry (distance learning)

Now works as:  Silviculturalist Scientist/Consultant
Now works for: National Forestry Resources Research Institute (NaFORRI)

"I picked up this competitive job as a result of the knowledge and skills acquired through the Inventory, Assessment and Monitoring and Research Methods modules (on the MSc Forestry - Distance Learning course).

"Studying part-time whilst working full-time was a real challenge but the reading materials provided really helped me to gain more insight into practical forest assessment and monitoring. This consultancy job is to bridge the existing research gaps within ATAAS project (Agricultural Technology and Agribusiness Advisory Services) being funded by World Bank through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF). I’m employed as part of a team of consultants based at different Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARIs).

"I'm based at NaFORRI and my job description includes: developing good silvicultural practices, valuation of ecosystem services, classification of sites for afforestation and reforestation, species site matching, developing yield tables for some selected species and quantifying the amount of carbon being fixed by different tree species, especially plantation species."
