Julia Jones, Professor of Conservation at the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, has been appointed as an independent member of the UK government’s Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), the UK’s statutory adviser on nature conservation.
The JNCC provides the UK government and the Devolved Governments with effective support for their evidence needs and policies for nature conservation and recovery across the UK, our Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies, and internationally.
Julia has extensive experience in environmental policy and research. Her current roles include trustee of WWF-UK and advisory board member of the Sounds Right initiative. She has previously served on the Welsh committee of the RSPB and as Director of the Low Carbon Energy and Environment Research Network Wales.
Julia says, “I am delighted to have been appointed to the JNCC. Their mission could not be more important. Addressing the nature crisis requires that policy makers have access to the best possible scientific advice and evidence. I am looking forward to working with the fabulous team at JNCC and the conservation community across the UK to help deliver this.”
