Katherine Bird - MEnvSci Environmental Management
Now works as: Graduate Ecology Consultant
Now works for: Resource and Environmental Consultants Ltd
Whilst driving to Bangor University, along the North Wales coast, I knew it was the place that I wanted to spend my time. Snowdonia National Park is the perfect place to explore and so many modules are set in the area. Bangor City is the perfect University City as everything needed is in a walking distance and it feels like a very safe place to live.
I loved Bangor that much, after three years I decided to continue for another year to complete the MEnvSci. The course provided a wide range of important topics which focused on the environment. There is great opportunity to travel into Snowdonia National Park and to be hands on, improving my field skills. During the field trips, there is also the chance to build relationships with other students, which many courses do not offer. My favourite part of the course was spending a week in Tenerife with my fellow students and we were taken around the island and La Gomera, looking at the range of environments.
During my final year, I was required to complete a work placement and I decided to apply for environmental consultants. I completed an 8 week placement at a consultancy, who then offered me a graduate position in the ecology consultant department, which I started one week after completing my dissertation. Bangor University taught me the required knowledge and skills to gain this job; I am currently working in a dream job and looking forward to my future!
