Bangor Connects with the World at the Silk Road 4.0 Global Future Summit on AI & Robotics!
On 14 April 2026, Bangor welcomed participants to the Silk Road 4.0 Global Future Summit, a unique international event bringing together voices from more than 20 cities around the world. As the local partner for the summit, the Confucius Institute at Bangor University hosted the Bangor gathering at Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre, connecting local participants with the global programme through a live video link and enabling them to take part in a truly international conversation.
The summit explored the theme “AI & Robotics: From Vision to Implementation,” highlighting how emerging technologies are moving from theoretical ideas into practical applications that are transforming industries and shaping the future of society.
The event began with a warm local welcome, allowing attendees to meet over coffee and settle into a relaxed and friendly atmosphere before joining the global livestream. Participants then took part in the international programme led by Dr Philippe Reinisch, who opened the summit by inviting reflection on an important question: what will remain relevant in a rapidly changing world?
The global session featured inspiring keynote contributions from distinguished speakers, including H.E. Ambassador Dr h.c. Vladimir Norov, Chairman of the Central Asian Association for AI, and Hon. Prof. Young-Sup Joo, Chairman of the Korea Digital Innovation Association and former Minister of South Korea. Their insights highlighted the importance of international cooperation, innovation, and responsible development as artificial intelligence and robotics continue to evolve.
Participants also had the opportunity to hear venture pitches from the Global Impact Challenge, showcasing innovative projects aimed at addressing real-world problems through technology and entrepreneurship.
One of the most engaging moments of the summit came during the Open Microphone session, where participants from around the world shared ideas, questions, and reflections. This interactive exchange created a sense of genuine global dialogue, connecting perspectives from different regions and disciplines.
The Bangor gathering offered a welcoming space for local participants to experience a global conversation while connecting with others in person. The event demonstrated how international collaboration can take place not only across continents but also within local communities that are eager to engage with the future of technology.
The Confucius Institute at Bangor University was pleased to support this initiative and to host the Bangor node of the Silk Road 4.0 network, helping bring global innovation discussions to the local community.
