Meet our Sustainability Team, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Sustainability. Our dedicated Sustainability Delivery Group is part of the University Executive’s committee structure, and has the remit for setting and implementing the sustainability strategy of the University. It meets quarterly and oversees the evolution and implementation of the sustainability programme. This group, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, reports to the Estates and Digital Strategy Committee.

The Campus Environmental Performance Team, led by the University's Environment Officer, ensures that day to day issues surrounding environmental performance are addressed and to discuss the issues raised internally and by external University communities. It uses these to inform the direction, planning and day-to-day management of our environmental management system and campus wide programme. This group reports to the Sustainability Delivery Group.

Energy-Saving Guidance for Staff and Students

As detailed in our staff and student environmental sustainability inductions, everyone can help reduce energy consumption. By switching off unused equipment, using heating and lighting responsibly, and reporting waste when you see it, you can contribute to a more sustainable campus while helping reduce operational costs and the University’s carbon emissions. Ecosia as a default search engine

In a move aimed at supporting global reforestation efforts and promoting sustainable practices, Bangor University switched to Ecosia as its default search engine in November 2024. Ecosia, is the world’s largest not-for-profit search engine, dedicating 100% of its profits to climate action, primarily through reforestation projects worldwide. To mark the occasion a Hamamelis Intermedia Firecracker tree was planted in the Outer Quad.

A year after Bangor University adopted Ecosia as its default search engine, it is estimated staff and students have helped plant about 18,141 trees across global reforestation projects.

Policy for the Re-use and disposal of all IT Equipment

Members of the University must follow this policy for re-use and disposal of computers and IT equipment. The policy compliments the University Policy and Procedure for Asset Recycling and Disposal.
