Overview

This is the first Humanities, Health and Well-Being module you will study over the three years of the course and will focus on some of the essential concepts within these Areas of Learning and Experience. The content will develop your knowledge and understanding of how these subjects are planned, developed and delivered within foundation learning.

Humanities: Begin to develop knowledge and understanding of: • The Humanities within the Curriculum for Wales • Key Themes within Humanities: Geography, History, Religion, Values and Ethics, Business Studies and Social Studies and how to apply these to foundation learning • People, places, periods and beliefs • Social and cultural diversity • ‘Cynefin’: Local, Wales and the wider world in a range of times, places and circumstances • How to ask questions about the past and present human experiences, at local, national and global levels • How learners’ personal story is part of a wider picture of the past and present • Learning outside the classroom

Health and Well-Being: Begin to develop knowledge and understanding of: • Health and Well-Being within the Curriculum for Wales • Key Health and Wellbeing Themes: Care and Personal Development, Healthy Choices, Learning to Learn, Relationships and Emotions, Keeping Safe and how to apply these to foundation learning • Physical Activities and outdoor education • Mental, emotional and physical well-being • Social and cultural influence on our communities • How to organize practical lessons • Learning outside the classroom • Personal values, self-esteem, confidence and motivation

Assessment Strategy

There will be two assignments in this module - Part A and Part B. Both will be marked out of 100%.

-Excellent - (A) Most learning outcomes will have been met to an excellent level and all learning outcomes will be very good. A deep knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by an extensive range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will provide excellent critical analysis when reflecting on a wide range of teaching and learning styles. Students will have developed their study skills to an excellent standard and will be able to communicate to an excellent standard in a professional and academic context.

-Very good -(B) Most learning outcomes will have been met to a very good level. Excellence in some learning outcomes may balance satisfactory attainment in others. A very good knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by a very good range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will provide very good critical analysis when reflecting on a significant range of teaching and learning styles. Students will have developed their study skills to a very good standard and will be able to communicate to a very good standard in a professional and academic context.

-Good -(C) Most learning outcomes will have been met to a good level. A good knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by a good range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will provide good critical analysis when reflecting on a significant range of teaching and learning styles. Students will have developed their study skills to a good standard and will be able to communicate to a good standard in a professional and academic context.

-Satisfactory-(D) All learning outcomes will have been met to a satisfactory level. Knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by a satisfactory range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will have demonstrated satisfactory evidence of critical analysis when reflecting on teaching and learning. Students will have developed their study skills to a satisfactory standard and will be able to communicate to a satisfactory standard in a professional and academic context.

Learning Outcomes

  • A clear understanding of health and safety requirements in the delivery of Humanities, Health and Well-Being both indoors and outdoors

  • A sound understanding of how to deliver learning outcomes through practical, creative and engaging approaches that are beneficial to all

  • Demonstrate subject specific knowledge and skills related to Humanities, Health and Well-Being

  • Develop an awareness of effective pedagogical practice relevant to Humanities, Health and Well-Being

  • Reflect effectively on your practice, relating it to pedagogical theory

  • Understand the importance of enquiry based learning

Plan a visit to an educational site that links to the Humanities. Write an annotated activity plan for the trip along with a risk assessment. Connections should be made with background reading, the Curriculum for Wales and scholarly theories relating to the use of educational trips.
