Overview
This is the second Humanities, Health and Well-Being module you will study over the three years of the course and will focus on some of the essential concepts within these Areas of Learning and Experience. The content will develop your knowledge and understanding of how these subjects are planned, developed and delivered within primary schools.
Humanities: Develop knowledge and understanding of: • The Humanities within the Curriculum for Wales • Key Themes within Humanities: Geography, History, Religion, Values and Ethics, Business Studies and Social Studies • Specific skills within the Humanities AoLE: Enquiry, Analysis, Evaluation, Interpretation • People, places, period and beliefs • The most important issues facing humanity, including sustainability and social change • Social and cultural diversity • How individual actions affect the community, locally and globally • ‘Cynefin’: Local, Wales and the wider world in a range of times, places and circumstances • Past and present human experiences, at local, national and global levels that relate to well-being and sustainability • Learning outside the classroom • Diversity and the importance of equality • How to take social action and contribute to your communities
Health and Well-Being: Develop knowledge and understanding of: • Health and Well-Being within the Curriculum for Wales • Key Health and Wellbeing Themes: Care and Personal Development, Healthy Choices, Learning to Learn, Relationships and Emotions, Keeping Safe • Physical Activities and outdoor education • Mental, emotional and physical well-being • Social and cultural influence on our communities • How to organize practical lessons • How to improve one's health and physical competence • Make decisions and accept responsibility • Learning outside the classroom • Concepts of self-esteem, self-worth, self-concept and resilience
Assessment Strategy
There will be two assignments in this module - Part A and Part B.
Both will be marked out of 100%.
-Excellent - (A) Most learning outcomes will have been met to an excellent level and all learning outcomes will be very good. A deep knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by an extensive range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will provide excellent critical analysis when reflecting on a wide range of teaching and learning styles. Students will have developed their study skills to an excellent standard and will be able to communicate to an excellent standard in a professional and academic context.
-Very good -(B) Most learning outcomes will have been met to a very good level. Excellence in some learning outcomes may balance satisfactory attainment in others. A very good knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by a very good range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will provide very good critical analysis when reflecting on a significant range of teaching and learning styles. Students will have developed their study skills to a very good standard and will be able to communicate to a very good standard in a professional and academic context.
-Good -(C) Most learning outcomes will have been met to a good level. A good knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by a good range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will provide good critical analysis when reflecting on a significant range of teaching and learning styles. Students will have developed their study skills to a good standard and will be able to communicate to a good standard in a professional and academic context.
-Satisfactory-(D) All learning outcomes will have been met to a satisfactory level. Knowledge and understanding of the module content will be supported by a satisfactory range of theory, practice and research literature. Candidates will have demonstrated satisfactory evidence of critical analysis when reflecting on teaching and learning. Students will have developed their study skills to a satisfactory standard and will be able to communicate to a satisfactory standard in a professional and academic context.
Learning Outcomes
- A broad portfolio of appropriate pedagogy to facilitate learning in Humanities, Health and Well-Being, including opportunities for outdoor learning
- A clear understanding of health and safety requirements in the delivery of Humanities, Health and Well-Being both indoors and outdoors
- A sound understanding of the importance of self-worth, resilience and care for self, others and our world to ensure a better future for all
- A thorough understanding of how to promote inquiry-based learning
- Strong subject knowledge and understanding of specialist skills relating to the Humanities, Health and Well-Being AoLEs
- The ability to critically analyse and evaluate pedagogy in Humanities, Health and Well-Being
