Exercise is Medicine!. In this module you will learn about the common chronic conditions that are having a significant impact on people’s health today and how regular exercise and increased physical activity can be used to help treat a variety of these chronic conditions. Using current exercise guidelines and the latest research literature you will develop key knowledge and practical skills which will enable you to screen patients for exercise, perform a wide range of health assessments and prescribe an individualised exercise programme for a variety of clinical populations. The knowledge and practical skills that you will develop in this module will provide you with a toolkit of knowledge and skills to take away for your future work.

Critically analyse the relationship between physical activity and exercise on health outcomes in a diverse range of participant groups and appreciate the importance of equality.

Confidently and competently present a 10-minute presentation providing an overview of a chronic condition.

Prepare suitable and comprehensive health assessments for patients with a range of chronic conditions or for those during recovery from treatment.

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology, symptoms, and diagnosis of a range of chronic conditions.

Demonstrate competency in assessing and monitoring the health and wellbeing of a client through appropriate evidence-based testing and exercise prescription/lifestyle intervention, demonstrating professionalism by practising key personal qualities such as compassion, empathy, flexibility, equality, diversity and understanding.

Critically analyse current exercise guidelines, scientific papers and reviews to prescribe suitable exercise programmes for people with a variety of chronic conditions.
