International Recognition for Criminology PhD Student Bo Zhang
Bo Zhang, a fourth-year doctoral student in Criminology and Criminal Justice, has recently received the Shanhe Jiang Outstanding Student Paper Award for his independently published paper in the journal of Victims & Offenders. He accepted his award during the 2025 American Society of Criminology conference in Washington, D.C., in November.
The Shanhe Jiang Outstanding Student Paper Award is given to recognize an outstanding student paper on a topic related to criminology and criminal justice in Greater China (e.g., mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau) or Chinese residents and immigrants and/or their communities overseas. This award is named after Dr Shanhe Jiang of Wayne State University who made a generous donation to the Association of Chinese Criminology and Criminal Justice in the United States (ACCCJ) in 2014.
Bo commented: “This is my first paper published in an English-language peer-reviewed journal, and this award is my first publication prize. Both mean a great deal to me. I thank my supervisor, Prof Martina Feilzer, for the suggestion she made to this paper and for teaching me how to respond to reviewers politely and effectively.”
Prof Martina Feilzer added: Bo is an excellent and diligent PhD student and this award provides evidence of his commitment to academic research and his independent mind and research ambitions. It is great to see his hard work recognised internationally and I am a very proud supervisor.”
