Prior to moving into health research in 2019, Trys enjoyed a 25 year career in adventure sports coaching, training and assessing National Governing Body awards at the national centres for England (Plas y Brenin) and Wales (Plas Menai) and abroard in the USA, Finland, and Norway. She also worked for Canoe Wales (now Paddle Cymru) as a Club Development Officer, where she gained a keen interest in peer support and community health and wellbeing peer support and its impact on individual and community wellbeing.

Trys is an early career researcher at the School of Health Sciences. She is interested in improving activity maintenance rates following physical activity interventions people may undertake. Speacifically she is interest in the role and approach of the intervention delivery staff and their use of graded individual support and the fostering of peer support networks to promote post intervention maintenance.
Trys is currently involved in the SPACES randomised control trial, an NIHR Programme Grant for Applied Research, which aims to implement a physical activity programme into existing NHS pathways. The SPACES intervention, involving 15 NHS sites across England and Wales has been co-designed with and for people living with severe mental illness. Trys is the Trials Coordinator for SPACES and is responsible for training and supporting NHS staff and local physical activity instructors to deliver the SPACES intervention.
